Last year I was commissioned by Artscape, the Oxford NHS Foundation Trust’s art project, to make a sculpture for The Whiteleaf Centre a new mental health hospital in Aylesbury. The overall theme was for work inspired by nature and in response I created ‘Shelter from the Sky’, a wall sculpture based on the silhouettes of tree canopies in summer. It is one of several artworks around the hospital intended to enliven the building and create a healing environment that works in harmony with the architectural design. It has now been installed by the main entrance to the building. I would like to dedicate this artwork to all dementia sufferers, especially my dad who died in November 2013.
